TIPS FOR STAGING YOUR HOME FOR TOP DOLLAR

Curb Appeal is Important

  • While you may not be able to afford to landscape, your home should have a mowed lawn, trimmed bushes, and swept walkways.
  • If you have a porch area, make sure it is scrubbed and cleared of clutter.

Get Rid of Extra Clutter

  • An easy way to get rid of extra clutter is to donate things that are no longer needed to your favorite charity.
  • Clean rooms allow potential buyers to focus their attention on key areas and to not be distracted by extra items that are left around the home.
  • The less clutter that you have within your home, the less you have to pack and move to your new place!

Watch Which Areas Catch Your Eye

  • It is a good idea to walk through every area of your home and identify which spots your eyes are drawn to. If your eyes are drawn to areas that have imperfections such as chipped paint, peeling wallpaper, etc, then be sure to ouch those areas up.

Clean, Clean, and Clean Some More

  • Although it is nearly impossible to live in a home and have it look spotless, you should take at least 20-30 minutes a day to make sure your home is continuously clean.
  • Make sure all appliances, whether included with the home or not, are sparkling clean.
  • All countertops, bathtubs, showers, sinks, and mirrors should be free of any water spots or other stains.
  • Clean windows in your home look newer and allow more light to come into the room.

Let in Fresh Air to Keep Your Home Feeling and Smelling Fresh

Let in as Much Light as Possible

  • Open window shades and turn on lights to brighten up each room in your home.
  • If rooms are particularly dark, consider purchasing a floor lamp that will project light throughout the room.

Consider Purchasing Fresh Flowers

  • There is no need to send a fortune on large flower arrangements, but fresh flowers can brighten counters. However, avoid purchasing any plastic or clearly fake flowers.

Evaluate the Amount of Noise in Your Home

  • If your home is near a busy street or neighborhood, it is a good idea to turn on some soft background music throughout your home.
